MilSpouse First Friday Fill-In (February)

Wifey of Wife of a Sailor came up with this 5 question monthly series to get to know our fellow bloggers better!  Once you post your answers on your own blog, you will submit your link on her site, where all the contributors are listed! Check it, Check it!

Here's my questions and answers for February
!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed?  There isn't much that I could have changed, but it would have been nicer to have a smaller gap between finishing up our TDY and starting in Japan.  Let me say this though, I have absolutely no place complaining about Aaron having tons of free time.  We had over a month of just hanging around couch and hotel hopping, which was nice to have a bit of time for relaxing, but it was so much time just WAITING to move to another country.  We are very ready to get started on that part of our lives.  It was nice to find new things to stay busy with and to get to know our family better.
2. What was your favorite thing that happened in January? Spending a relaxing, fattening and drunkening New Years with Aaron, my sister, her boyfriend, and her kitties.
3. What are you looking forward to in February? Moving to Japan, duh!!!!
4. What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Flying to Japan motherfuckers!!!!
5. What is your best advice for a MilSpouse whose spouse is deployed for Valentine’s Day? I really can't be giving advice to any part of this because Aaron and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day.  Annnnd, he has yet to be deployed.  If I HAD to give advice, I would say start now and admit to yourself that V-Day is just another day on the calendar, cause it is.  And if you can't do that, then buy yourself a container (or two) of Ben & Jerry's (and non of that fat-free shit either), a bottle (or two) of wine, and brag about your night.  Make people jealous you're going to eat and drink and be merry sitting in your underwear on the couch watching lots of reruns of Law and Order or Glee or whatever it is that floats your alone time boat.

Here's my questions and answers for January!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed? Hmm...I'm not really sure.  Oh! I wouldn't have let the fucker who bought my jeep drive home with my license plate.  He was another military member from our base and for once, I gave someone the benefit of the doubt, trusting them until they give me a reason not to.  He didn't return my license plate, and played games with me the whole month about it.  Hopefully I've worked out all the legalities with the state of Florida, and nothing will come back to me about it...we'll see.  This just helped justify to myself why I do the things I do.
2. What was your favorite thing that happened in December? Seeing sister of course!!! Yay for sister time!!!!!  Another favorite was destroying my little cousins in a pillow fight....total annihilation!!!
3. What are you looking forward to in January? Getting out of our stinky furnished apartment.  It's stinky.  It has furniture that isn't ours.  And only 2 windows.  And ever since packing up and sending everything we own to Japan....I'm getting frustrated when I try to cook only to find out I've packed that certain spice or kitchen utensil or best of all, a baking dish for that pie I just made.  It's hard to cook a pie without any sort of baking dish.*sigh*
4. What did you do for New Year’s Eve? Ran a bunch of errands with Rachael, Brendan, and Aaron. Got our Jersey food fix with the MOST AMAZING sandwich at Rose's Pizza in Garfield.  Played video games in our PJ's, snacked all night on gourmet stuffed olives, and drank lots of wine and champagne!
5. What are your hopes and wishes for 2013? That the Sammy girl (the cat) has a successful trip to Japan.  I also hope that I experience everything I possibly can while living in Okinawa!!!

MilSpouse First Friday Fill-In (December)

Here's my questions and answers for Decemeber!

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed? I would have chilled out a little more.  Maybe living in the middle of nowhere is starting to get to me, maybe it's preparing to move across the world, but there were a few days this month that I definitely stressed myself out waaay too much.  I also feel like I've been going non-stop and could totally use a day on the couch with a bottle of wine and a Law and Order SVU marathon.  That would totally straighten things out for a while.  Dum-Dum.
2. What was your favorite thing that happened in November? Went to Dallas with friends and ate ungodly amounts of delicious food which made me so freaking happy.  Really, how could we NOT have 2 dinners in one night.  We also John & Sherry from Young House Love at our first book signing.  Oh! And we had our first formal afternoon tea.  That makes us all sound so fancy pants, but don't let that fool you.
3. What is your favorite holiday memory? There is a toss up between 2 specific moments.  Once at Thanksgiving I laughed so hard I fell through my chair.  No joke.  My parents had this beautiful old OLD dining room set that was old.  We never had any issues with it up until then, but it was getting kinda old and the chairs kind of rickety.  *laugh* *laugh* *boom*  The seat of the chair just totally gave way.  Which is weird because I must have weighed all of 100lbs at the time, and my uncle's chair, who was supporting nearly 400lbs was fine. Did I mention the chair was old?
And then there was the time that we look over and my grandmothers head was in my grandfathers lap.  My dad yells, "Mom! Can't you wait until you get home!!!??!" My grandmother was the first one to pick up on it, my mom is yelling at my dad for saying that 'in front of the kids', my grandfather doesn't know why everyone is laughing and yells "Does anyone have a flashlight!?!", and I swear - food and drink must have shot out of everyone's nose.  That was like the funniest shit ever.  We are all still laughing about it, and that must have been 10 years ago.  Oh, the reason it looked like my grandma's head was in his lap was that he dropped one of his pills, and she was looking for it on the floor.
Priceless.
4. What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? We are going 'home' during the Christmas/New Years time, so our week is going to be pretty busy.  As of now, the plans are to hang out with my sister in NJ, get a shit ton of pizza *angels singing* (and booze), and just hang out.  I'm sure video games and lots of darts are going to happen. Also, annoying her cats.  Cause that's what we do.
5. What are you looking forward to in December? December is going to be a busy month.  Next week I'm looking forward to packing ALL OF OUR STUFF AND SENDING IT TO JAPAN.  Holy crap.  And OF COURSE I'm so so SO stoked to see my family the week after that.

MilSpouse First Friday Fill-In

I found Wifey of Wife of a Sailor blog through Ground Control to Major Mom, which are a couple of great sites to get other peoples perspective and experience of military life.  Wifey (a nickname the author has given herself in order to follow OPSECwhile still sharing her experiences) came up with this 5 question monthly series to get to know our fellow bloggers better!  Once you post your answers on your own blog, you will submit your link on her site, where all the contributors are listed!  It's a great way to find blog of similar interest.

1. What’s one thing in the past month you would have changed? I would have gone swimming more often.  I don't even have an excuse to why I didn't.
2. What was your favorite thing that happened in August? Found a place to live.  For a few weeks we were living out of our suitcase between a hotel room and a families house.  While we are so very appreciative of our open-ended invitation, it was great to have a place to call OUR home, even if it's just for 5 months.  It was nice to be able to cook again also.
3. What did you do to celebrate Labor Day? On the weekends here, especially holiday weekends, our town turns into a ghost town.  We were one of the few that stayed nearby, and we ended up driving to the next town (1 hour over) to stop by and say hi to Aaron's Aunt & Uncle, have lunch, and then headed to the small casino to check it out.  We stayed a few hours, Aaron got a free $10 credit for Military Monday, and we ended up winning a grand total of $8.  Boom Boom POW!
4. What do you HAVE to have handy by your bedside? Cell phone & Kindle (for when I wake up in the middle of the night) and a hair tie (in case my locks start to strangle me).  I try to remember water, but that only happens occasionally.
5. What are you looking forward to in September? Cooler temperatures so I can turn the air off and open some windows.  Also, cooler temperatures means I can get my husband to sit outside with me for longer than 39 seconds.

1OPSEC: Operational Security.  Basically, by following operations security procedures, you protect little bits of information that could be grouped together to give the bigger picture.  Things that seem innocent enough individually, such as publicly posting (facebook, blogs, anywhere)  your/your spouse's/your friend's squadron/last name/dates & locations of deployments, could be useful for enemies to do bad things.  And we don't want enemies to do bad things, do we?  No. So we keep private information private.
